The number of tour buses on American roads has roughly doubled since 1975, greatly increasing the odds of bus wrecks like one that occurred recently in the remote desert at the Arizona-Nevada border.
In that collision, a Dallas Cowboys’ bus that was taking non-player personnel and between fifty and seventy-five fans to a promotional event in Las Vegas, and then onto the team’s training camp facility in California, crashed into a passenger van; four occupants in the van, who were all foreign tourists, were killed. Investigators determined that the van failed to yield the right-of-way to the bus. [Read more…] about More Football-Related Serious Injuries

A Tragic End To A Family Vacation
An 11-year-old boy was killed in a car crash as he returned to Lafayette from a trip to Alabama.
The wreck occurred in Foley, as Cameron Bailey was on the way home with a family friend from a vacation in Orange Beach. According to police, a male driver in a red pick-up truck, whose name was not released, apparently suffered from a medical emergency just before he swerved into oncoming traffic. ‘A Gentleman And A Gunfighter’?
One hundred thirty years ago this month, notorious Wild West gunslinger Clay Allison, whose childhood brain injury probably explained his lifelong erratic and violent behavior, was killed in a wagon accident near his home in Pecos, Texas.
Mr. Allison was born around 1840 in Tennessee. Some years later, the Confederate Army discharged him for what doctors called a “partly epileptic and partly maniacal” condition, an almost certain reference to a brain injury. After the War of Northern Aggression, Mr. Allison moved west and either single-handedly or in cooperation with others killed several innocent people. He married in 1881, and though his violent rages ceased his bizarre behavior continued: he once rode naked through the streets of Mobeetie and, following a dispute with a dentist, pinned the hapless man to the ground and forcibly extracted one of his teeth with a pair of pliers. Direct And Circumstantial Evidence In Landowner Liability Cases
Slip-and-falls, dog bites, and swimming pool drownings are among the most common types of landowner liability negligence cases. In each instance, the landowner has a duty of care to protect visitors from injury; because invited guests have more legal rights than uninvited ones, the precise nature of the duty largely depends on the visitor’s legal status of invitee, licensee, or trespasser.
In all these instances, the plaintiff must prove liability by a preponderance of the evidence, which means more likely than not. Picture two equally-sized stacks of paper side by side. If one sheet is moved from the left to the right, the stack on the right is higher than the one on the left. That is the picture of preponderance of the evidence. Near-Fatal Pedestrian-Auto Crash In Lake Charles
A young woman who inexplicably stopped in traffic and exited her vehicle is in critical condition at a local hospital, after she was injured by an oncoming car.
The woman, whose name was not released, was airlifted to the hospital following the incident. While eastbound on East Prien Lake Road, the woman slowed and stopped near the intersection of Louisiana 397. A trailing truck swerved to the left to avoid a collision, but at the same time, the woman got out of her vehicle, and the truck hit her at practically full speed. Toxicology tests on both drivers came back negative.
Police are still investigating the incident. [Read more…] about Near-Fatal Pedestrian-Auto Crash In Lake Charles
