A Beaux Bridge man died after a serious motorcycle wreck.
The biker, later identified as 34-year-old Tucker Huval, was eastbound on West Willow Street near Staten Street, when a westbound motorist, whose name was not released, made a left turn across traffic and collided into Mr. Huval, whom he apparently did not see. The force of the collision separated Mr. Huval from his bike; he was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
No charges are pending against the driver at this time, but police say the investigation is ongoing. [Read more…] about SMIDSY Motorcycle Crash In Lafayette

21-year-old's Life Ends in Fatal Motorcycle Accident
During the summer months, there seem to be more motorcycles on Louisiana’s roadways. With that increase in riders comes a corresponding increase in the possibility of a serious or fatal motorcycle accident. Recently, a 21-year-old man lost his life in an accident while he was a passenger on the back of a motorcycle.
He and the 18-year-old driver were heading west on Louisiana 46. At the same time, a pickup truck driven by a 27-year-old man was heading east. At an intersection, the pickup initiated a left turn in front of the motorcycle. At approximately 9:15 p.m., the motorcycle collided with the pickup.
Both of the men were thrown off the motorcycle. When emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, both the driver and passenger were still alive, but had suffered serious injuries. Both were rushed to LSU Interim Hospital in New Orleans for treatment. At last report, the driver remained in critical condition. His passenger, however, died from his injuries.
The pickup driver was tested for impairment, but troopers with the Louisiana State Police do not believe it to be a factor in the crash. The riders were not wearing helmets and, reportedly, the motorcycle’s lights were not on when the crash occurred. It is not known whether any charges are being contemplated against either driver in connection with the crash or the passenger’s death.
Regardless, the family of the passenger killed in this fatal motorcycle accident may file a wrongful death claim against one or both drivers in an attempt to achieve restitution for the financial losses incurred because of the loss of their loved one. Moreover, the motorcycle’s driver may be able receive some restitution for his injuries as well. Even if he is found partially liable for the crash and his injuries, he is not barred from recovery under Louisiana law so long as he is not found to be 100 percent responsible.
Louisiana Motorcyclist Was Unable to Avoid Auto Accident
Many people assume that the driver of the vehicle that actually made first contact in an accident is the one that is at fault. However, that isn’t always the case. There are times that the actions of the vehicle that was hit actually caused the auto accident. This may have been the case in an accident that recently caused the death of a Louisiana man.
The 69-year-old man was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 1 on his motorcycle recently. At the same time, a 74-year-old woman had pulled off of the road onto the shoulder. When she pulled back out onto the highway to make a U-turn, she did so right in front of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle rider was unable to avoid colliding with the driver’s side of the woman’s car. Emergency personnel transported the man to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries. Unfortunately, medical personnel were unable to save the man’s life, and he was pronounced dead sometime later. The woman driving the car was taken to another area hospital to be treated for what have been described as minor injuries.
Investigators have not yet indicated whether they will be filing any charges against the woman in connection with this auto accident. Under our state law, the family of the victim retains the right to file a wrongful death claim against her regardless of what happens with the official investigation. They will need to show evidence to a court establishing that she was negligent and that her negligence caused or contributed to the death of the motorcycle rider. If they are able to do that, the court may award them the costs and damages incurred as the result of their loved one’s tragic death.
