Car Wreck on Louisiana Hwy 2 Kills 1, Injures 2

The Louisiana State Police reminded drivers to stay attentive while driving in the aftermath of a recent accident. Troopers warn drivers that being impaired, fatigued, driving too fast and being distracted by things such as electronic devices can cause a car wreck. Troopers have not yet determined what factors may have caused a driver in this recent wreck to veer off course. However, they do not believe alcohol was a factor, though toxicology samples were obtained nevertheless.
A portion of Louisiana Highway 2 was closed as troopers conducted a preliminary investigation of the head-on collision that occurred on Nov. 19. From the information gathered at the scene, police have surmised that the eastbound vehicle strayed into oncoming traffic directly into the path of a westbound vehicle. The crash caused fatal injuries to the eastbound driver, and emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Two people occupied the other vehicle. The 62-year-old driver suffered injuries that were described as moderate and was taken to an area hospital. His 34-year-old passenger’s injuries were more serious, and she was taken to the same hospital. Their current conditions are not known.
Depending on the extent and nature of the injuries they sustained, a long recovery could be ahead. As a result of this car wreck, they have likely been incurring expenses for medical treatments and may have lost income from missed time at work as well. Both have the right to pursue personal injury claims against the estate of the deceased driver in the hopes of recovering the damages incurred, plus pain and suffering and any other damages applicable under our laws.
